  • ? another new site possibility

Just this past weekend I was at a "Beat on the new BMW" event with a friend, the event was in Blaine I think, at the "sports center"??? I just recall a hockey rink, never ending soccer fields, and lots of asphalt. Anyone live/work in the area and can get a better idea of the overall size? Seemed plenty big to me, but with tents, an "auto cross" area, patron parking, show area for all the new BMW's, it was hard to tell exactally how big it all was.

    Been there, done that

Seems as though they will rent to BMW, Mitsubishi, Mazda, etc but not US!
They wanted a gazillion $$$$$$, said the surface was too thin, no time on their schedule, etc.
We should try again though, it's really big and really close to my house.......

Bringing this back from the dead, Has anyone from our group attempted to request this lot since 2005? The lots are very large, perhaps something has changed in the past 7 years to change there mind?

Looks like we'd need to connect the two lots on the west to make one good course.

Why can't we just get this place to let us use half their lot:http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=...-8&sa=N&tab=wl

They rent this place out all the time during the week for tire companies and such. I have done many Ride and Drive events there for Bridgestone and two weeks ago did one for Monroe shocks. The lots were re-paved a couple of years ago and in good shape but the ones we would be allowed to use - the center and west lots - are not really that big. We are talking a roughly 30-second course on one side unless you do multiple laps with grid in the other. The bigger east lot always has cars in it and they don't seem to rent that out.

HA! If you zoom in close on the west-most lot there's already a (rather uninteresting) track layout.

These lots aren't very large, in autocross terms. As others have noted, the pair of lots the Sports Center is willing to rent are each smaller than Midway, and the connection is too narrow to use both lots for a single course. In addition, there are light poles to contend with. If/when Midway goes away, we may need to consider lots like this for the Novice School, but we would need to use a smaller/slower course than at Midway, and safety would be more of a concern with the light poles.

Dave I live and work in Blaine a few miles north. The problem is the weekends, there are rec league Hockey games all year at the Super rinks (7 sheets of Ice) and the Soccer and Lacrosse games are pretty much non-stop during the nice weather months. I have seen a few of the corporate motoring events in the west lot by the velodrome, usually on Fridays. DP

That pavement looked to be in really rough shape when i drove by it a week ago and I don't think the Highland residents would be too keen on the noise we make anyhow.
