  • Website Acceptable Use Policy

I encourage all users of this website to review our Acceptable Use Policy:

    MNautox.com Acceptable Use Policy
    1. All Topics and Posts must be related to auto sports or automotive topics. Appropriate off-topic discussion is permitted in the area designated for such topics.
    2. Language that would be inappropriate in the polite company of strangers is unwelcome here.
    3. No advertising, spamming, fundraising, trolling, illegal activity, flaming or other personal attacks, be they acrimonious or veiled in humor. If you take issue with a Member's position, by all means speak your mind. If you have a problem with a Member's religion, creed, national origin, sex, politics, associations or personal hygiene, take it to e-mail.
    4. No bashing - Deliberately and repeatedly bashing the same brand, product or company will get you banned. If you have a complaint or comment to make then make it once and make sure you have facts to support it. If you have a specific ongoing dispute with a vendor, the forum is not the place to seek resolution. Please work directly with the vendor to reach a resolution.
    5. As we can never convey a philosophy through a few rules, we reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to edit or delete posts and/or to revoke Membership. At best you will receive one warning.
    Advertising Policy

Advertising (including auctions, sales, fundraising efforts, promoting your business in your signature, etc.) is strictly prohibited, unless prior approval has been obtained from forum moderators.
Individuals who have items to sell may do so in the For Sale/Wanted sub-forum. You may not reference items for sale in your signature or in posts outside the For Sale/Wanted sub-forum.
You may not reference your automotive-related business or URL in your signature, user profile, or username unless you are a forum sponsor.
Approved forum sponsors may be permitted to advertise on the forum, at the discretion of forum moderators.

    Posting Guidelines
Many of us learn in grammar school about "free speech" and "freedom of expression", a concept stemming from the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. Unfortunately, most people have never read the first amendment and fewer still understand how it applies to our rights. In a nutshell, the first amendment prohibits the US government from passing laws restricting our right to free speech. It does not restrict an organization or business from enacting and enforcing standards.
We believe in freedom of expression, the first amendment, and all that. However we are not providing the forum for that freedom. We have rules. They must be honored. If you can not accept it, please do not register.

MNautox.com is a community of auto sports enthusiasts. We have always had standards in the forum and we have a strong belief in the ability of forum members to "self-regulate" to stay within the bounds of those standards. Due to a limited number of volunteer staffing, we are sometimes lax in enforcing them. Still, we have a strong commitment to providing an environment that we consider professional and "family friendly" and we insist on adherence to our principles.
    • All posts must be civil, friendly, and not be vulgar.
    • This is not a soapbox. You can't say whatever you like.
    • Stupid, pointless topics will be deleted.
    • Moderators have a free reign here. If they don't like it, it's toast.
    • Repeat offenders will be banned.
    • This is a family forum - like it or not.
    • No cross posting.
No requests for information that is "pay-for-service" info. You may not, for example, ask someone to look up your VIN in Carfax®. To do so is a violation of that person's agreement with Carfax and MNautox.com will not be a party to that violation.

Unfortunately, determining which side of "the line" a given post falls is not always so simple. Forum moderators have the difficult task of making that judgment call. Hopefully they'll make the decision that is considered "correct" by 95% of the community, but they're human and they will occasionally make mistakes. If you feel that the moderators of a particular forum are making too many mistakes, please email us with specific details. Do not post complaints, criticisms, or moderation questions on the forum. These posts will be deleted and no explanation will be given.

The site moderators have been quite lenient in enforcing the commonsense policies in place for this site.
However, there have been several recent exchanges that are in clear violation of the site's Acceptable Use Policy.
As a result, I've asked moderators to be more vigilant and quicker to act in the future.

    Sincerely,

    Your friendly webmaster.

I have a follow-up to the original message. The Board of Directors has communicated they expect this website to be moderated in close adherence to the Acceptable Use Policy going forward.
If you like pushing the boundaries of civility, I urge caution in the future, as the site moderators will be quicker to act than in the past.
